John G. Mirides was born on April 1, 1922 in Wheeling, Berks County, West Virginia and raised there as the son of the late George (1894-....), and Despina (Paparoftaky) Mirides (1898-....) who where born in Greece. He had two brothers and one sister.

John George Mirides lived in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia when he enlisted the service (#15324948) on November 25, 1942 at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio. He was going to the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) as a T/4 with the 83rd Infantry Division, Divisional Headquarters Company.

After the War he married Sharon Mirides (1927-2014) on August 19, 1950. John graduated from Warwood High School and was a graduate of West Virginia University earning both his B.S. and M.A. degrees. He passed away on July 19, 2002 at the Laurels of Massillon, Massillon, Ohio, and is buried at the Mount Calvary Cemetery of Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia.
