World War II hero responsible for the capture of 20,000 Nazi troops

Lt. Sam Magill with his platoon of 24 men, convinced German Major General Erich Elster and his more than 18,000 men to surrender after a late arrival of air power of 16 planes.  Magill promised there would be more if the Germans did not surrender. The Lieutenant and his men escorted the 20,000 armed Germans through 90 miles of the French countryside to the official surrender site.
