D Battery - 136th AAA Battalion

John Walter Morrow was born on June 21, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois.

John W. 'Jack' Morrow entered the service on November 30, 1942 at Chicago, Illinois. He received part of his basic training as a member of D Battery, 136th AAA at the Anti-Aircraft Training Center, Camp Edwards, Massachusetts. In December 1943 he was transferred to Keesler Field, Mississippi for further basic and technical training with the USAAF. He spent further time at other training centers such as Bradley Field, Connecticut and Fort Dix, New Jersey before going overseas with the 40th Mobile Communications Squadron. He spent time attached to Hq 1st Army before being send to the A-44 airstrip near Le Mans in October 1944.

In short, he took a different path as his buddies in the 136th AAA Gun Battalion who ended up serving in Operation Antwerp X.

John W. Morrow married Martha Neuman (1920-2008) on September 1, 1956. He died on October 31, 1995.
