Souvenir brought back

Outstanding Veteran Bringback Ashtray

These objects were popular souvenirs, often referred to as 'trench art' or 'bring backs'. They were very common at the end of World War II and were often made from recycled and discarded materials such as aluminium, wood or acrylic glass.

This ashtray is hand-hammered aluminum and personalized. It is a commemorative design for Operation Antwerp X, as can be deduced from the markings 'V-1 Antwerp' and 'October 1944 to April 1945'. It was likely personalized to Clyde Melba, Clyde M Elba or another variant. Unfortunately no such name can be found in any records.
