Biography and Wartime Service

George H. Bourget was born on October 28, 1923 in Canada and lived in the Detroit, Michigan area when he was drafted into the US army in 1942. He served as a member of H Company, 329th Infantry Regiment. After World War 2 he would become a regular attendee at the 83rd Infantry Division Reunions. In 2014 George Bourget was set to receive the "Legion D'honneur", France's highest military honor, for his service in France during WW2 during a special ceremony at the reunion in New Orleans. Sadly, George unexpectedly passed away hours before leaving for the reunion on July 30, 2014. Even though the Legion d'Honneur is traditionally never awarded posthumously, his daughter Judy was able to receive the honor in his stead.
