Biography and Wartime Service

George Russell Whitehead or better known as 'Russ' Whitehead was born on December 6, 1923 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He was drafted into the service and joined on July 28, 1944 in Providence, Rhode Island. Five months later he was on a train heading for Luxembourg on December 6, 1944 when he celebrated his 21st birthday. He was assigned to F Company, 329th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman Scout in 3rd Platoon while they were in the Hurtgen Forest.

G. Russell Whitehead, 94, of East Amwell Township, New Jersey, died on February 5, 2018, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, New Jersey.
