Ralph D. Watkins of Franklin, Kentucky, enlisted on October 13, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. Ralph took some of his training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana before going to the European Theatre of Operation (ETO) and was a T/4 in the 83rd Infantry Division, 331st Infantry Regiment.

While serving in Europe, Ralph was a Non-battle casualty (NBC) on December 25, 1944 while the 331st was in the Battle of the Bulge.
