John Peter Guzik was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 19, 1913, to Frank (1886-1963) and Chatherine (1888-1983) (Wolanin) Guzik, Polish immigrants.
He enlisted (#33269959) in the U.S. Army on June 15, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. John Guzik was assigned to the 83rd Infantry Division as a replacement. He joined Company B of the 331st Infantry Regiment on July 11, 1944 while they were in the vicinity South West of Carentan. The Morning Reports from August 2, 1944 listed him as promoted from Private to Private First Class.
He received the Bronze Star Medal for heroism while in Europe (AAR May, 1945 p.30)
