James F. Overholts was born on April 3, 1921, in West Middletown, Ohio, to Marian M. (Sharkley), age 20 (1900-1968), and Harmon Overholts, age 19 (1901-1969). He had one brother and two sisters.

James Overholts enlisted (#35664958) on October 10, 1942 in Cincinatti, Ohio. The Morning Report from July 1944 listed James Overholts as transfered to a Rest Center on July 16 and returned on July 22. On August 15, 1944 he was lightly Wounded in Action while serving with his unit in Brittany.

After arriving back home in the US, James Overholts married Dorothy E. They remained married until his death on May 14, 1985. James Overholts is buried at the Rose Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, Ohio.
