Kenneth Russell Hassell was born on April 30, 1921 in Creswell, North Carolina as the third of four sons to Charles Andrew (1893-1964) and Maude Estell (Dillon) (1890-1926) Hassell. He lost his mother when he was just five years old and grow up with his father and his three brothers. At the age of 21, he enlisted (#34455423) in the Army on October 6, 1942, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. At that time he lived in Jamesville, North Carolina. In september 1943 he moved to Camp Breckinridge and trained there for the remainder of the year and the first two months of 1944. He ended up serving with Service Battery of the 323rd Field Artillery Battalion of the 83rd Infantry Division.
Kenneth Hassell died on December 10, 1968 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond, North Carolina. He is buried at the Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia, Tyrell County, Nort Carolina. He was never married.

His older brother, Loyd M. Hassell (November 29, 1918), enlisted on November 24, 1942, also at Fort Bragg. He was Killed In Action on December 16, 1944, the first day of the Battle of the Bulge. He is burried at the New Bern National Cemetery,
New Bern,
