Kenneth M. Maier was born on December 26, 1917, in Ohio to Nellie Jane McConnell, age 33, and Louis Maier, age 40. Kenneth was the youngest of five children, he had two sisters and two brothers. His grandfather was born in Germany (Baden-Württemburg). His father Louis passed away on May 28, 1941, in Cambridge, Ohio, at the age of 64. Shortly after his father's death, Kenneth M. Maier enlisted in the Army on November 11, 1942, in Akron, Ohio. A few days after he enlisted, he married Martha Jane Vandyne on November 15, 1942, in Guernsey, Ohio.

The Morning Report from July 12, 1944 listed him as promoted from Private First Class to Sergeant. On the Morning Report of July 13 he is listed as LWA and transfered to the 96th Evacuation Hospital on July 12, 1944. At that time he was fighting in the hedgerows in the vicinity of Sainteny.

He died in July 1983 in Zanesville, Ohio, at the age of 65, and was buried in Cambridge, Ohio.
