I met this Fifteenth Air Force veteran will I was visiting at the American Cemetery and Memorial of Henri Chapelle, Belgium. I spoke with him about his visit and he told me:
''I’m here today to visit the grave of my best friend. I was with the 15th Air Force and was stationed in Italy but I had a friend who I knew from when we were little boys. We went from kindergarten all the way up and enlisted together. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force and send to Europe and I went to Italy. Now I’m 86 years old and he was just 2 months younger. He was shot down above Germany and chrashed in the vicinity of Aachen. It’s very emotional to be here and to stand in front of his grave''.
