An American Merchant Marine veteran told me the follow:
”I served in the U.S. Merchant Marines in World War II in the Pacific/South Pacific area in 1944, 1945. The Merchant Marine played a vital role in achieving victory against the axis powers. Without us, the war may not have been won. We lost 850 ships and lost more men per capita than the other armed forces”.
He was proud to be one of them, and… I was very proud to mret him.
