Robert Eldridge was captured during the "Battle of the Bulge". He was held prisoner for 'only four months', as he said. I cannot imagine how he must have felt when he first realized it was happening to him. He was kind enough to share a few stories with me. He said he was issued his M-1 carbine and five rounds of ammunition. Yes, 5 bullets. I could only stand there while trying to absorb that little bit of information. He then said he was also issued three anti-tank grenades, but learned very quickly that they would not work in his M-1 carbine because he was not issued any 'blanks' with which to fire them.
