James Frederick Julianus was born on May 3, 1896, in Malden, Massachusetts, to Margaret 'Maggie' A. Bishop (1859-1910) and John Lawrence Julianus (1854-1921). His mother was born in Canada, his father in the Netherlands.
James F. Julianus married Mary Ellen Scales in Summit, Ohio, on August 25, 1917.

James Frederick Julianus (#1950142) enlisted in the Army on November 5, 1917 in Akron, Ohio and was assigned to Headquarters Company of the 332nd Infantry until discharge. He was going overseas on June 8, 1918 and saw action in the battle of Vittorio-Veneto, Italy. James Julianus promoted to Corporal on August 16, 1918 and became a Sergeant on April 22, 1919. He was Honorable Discharge on May 5, 1919.

James Frederick Julianus died on June 24, 1919, in Akron, Ohio, following injuries received in an explosion of naptha at a factory where he had been employed but a week. He was 23 years at age and just two months ago he was discharged after 11 months overseas, were he served as mounted orderly sergeant in the 332nd regiment. He leaves his wife Mary (1896–1984), two brothers and his father.
