Technical Sergeant William H. Jones Jr.

William Herbert Jones was born on April 13, 1921 in Allison Park, Pennsylvania as the son of Dorothy A (Westhoff) and William H. Jones. William Jr. attended West View High School and worked for the Royal Typewritter Company before entering the Service.

William H. Jones enlisted on October 16, 1942 at Fort Meade, Maryland and after his assignment to the 83rd Division was stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. He went overseas with the division on April 6, 1944 as a member of H Company, 329th Regiment. A few weeks after D-Day his unit landed on Omaha Beach and went into combat early in July. William Jones was Lightly wounded in action while fighting near Sainteny on July 15, 1944 and transferred to 96th Evacuation Hospital. He recovered from his wounds in a base hospital in England and rejoined his unit on August 20, 1944. He was promoted to Technical Sergeant and assumed the role of a Platoon Sergeant (651) as of January 17, 1945.
During the Battle of the Bulge T/Sgt. W.H. Jones was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement. For his service in WWII he was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with five campaign stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

After the war, William Jones married Anna Lois Bell on June 10, 1947. William H. Jones Jr. passed away on December 3, 2008. He was preceded in dead by his wife Anna in 2004.
