John Mathis Worthman was born on November 30, 1920 in North Braddock, Pennsylvania to Hilda G. Mathis (1892-1989) and Dr. Dietrich Worthman (1884-1995) who was born in Germany and came to America in 1903. John was a student at The Ohio State University.

2nd Lt. John M. Worthman (#O-1998374) was a member of Company A, 308th Medical Battalion, 83rd Infantry Division. At the end of the war John Worthman was promoted to 1st Lt.

John Mathis Worthman died on February 8, 1991 at Kettering Medical Center, Montgomery. He was survived by his wife Phyllis Worthman and two daughters.
