James Franklin Overholts was born on April 3, 1921, in West Middletown, Ohio, to Marian M. Sharkley (1900-1968), and Harmon Overholts (1901-1969). He was a member of the 1939 graduating class of Hamilton High school

James Overholts entered the service (#35664958) on October 10, 1942 in Cincinatti, Ohio. He reciving his training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. He married Dorothy E. Stevenson in 1943 and was assigned overseas in April 1944. The Morning Report from July 1944 listed James Overholts as transfered to a Rest Center on July 16 and returned on July 22. On August 15, 1944 he was lightly Wounded in Action while serving with his unit in Brittany. For his service he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal.

James F. Overholts passed away on May 14, 1985 and is buried at the Rose Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, Ohio.
