V-Mail identified to Anthony M. Paulo - C Company, 329th Infantry Regiment

Original censored WWII Army V-Mail cover and letter, dated August 3, 1944. The V-Mail was sent by Pfc. Anthony M. Paulo to Beata L. Thompson, Boylston Street, Boston, Massachusetts. The cover contains also his original V-mail letter. The date the V-mail was sent is September 8, 1944, the address the envelope was sent from was APO #83 which was in Sable sur Sarthe, France on this date.
Note: Put into practice in June 1942, V-mail became the most popular way for the troops to correspond across the ocean. As a way to limit bulk mail, V-mail blanks were submitted, photographed, then condensed and sent in special envelopes.

Private First Class Anthony M. Paulo

Anthony Martin Paulo was born on January 16, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio as the youngest son of Polish imigrants, Stanley Paulo and Helen Spoust. His three older brothers, Joseph, Edward and Louis Paulo were all born in Poland.

Anthony M. Paulo entered the service as a draftee (#35516680) on October 13, 1942 at Cleveland, Ohio. Company Order No.3 from Company C, 329th Infantry, dated August 1, 1944 listed Anthony Paulo as promoted from Private to Private First Class. A few days he later he was Lightly Wounded in Action (LWA) on August 4, 1944. The Morning Report from August 5, 1944 tells he was transferred to the 104th Evac Hosp after that. He rejoined his Company on August 24, 1944 when they were in the Bauge area, Angers, France.

Anthony M. Paulo married Lillian Theresa Zima in 1945 in Cuyahoga, Ohio. They had nine children during their marriage. After the war, Anthony's occupation was as an organist at various churches. Anthony died at age 73, on November 22, 1995 in the Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. He was precieded in dead by his wife Lillian T. Paulo (1925-1991).
