Private First Class Edward T. Golembiewski

Edward Thomas Golembiewski was born on January 12, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio to Anna Neuman (1893-1960) and Martin Golembiewski (1888-1976). They were of Polish heritage.

Edward T. 'Ed' Golembiewski enlisted on October 15, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was one of the early members of Anti-Tank Company. He was with them at basic training in Camp Atterbury, Indiana, then went to the Tennessee maneuvers an to Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. Early April, 1944 Anti-Tank Company was stationed at Camp Shanks from where they left the US. They headed for Europe aboard the HMT Samaria. He arrived in Liverpool on April 16 from where they left for Wales by train. The unit boarded the SS Lucy Stone on July 19, 1944 for France but due to heavy weather it took them 5 days to arrive at Omaha Beach. He stayed with Anti-Tank Company for the remainder of the war. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 campaign stars and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war was over he was transferred to the 7th Armored Division in September 1945 while in Deggendorf, Germany, with this unit he was then discharged. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

Edward T. Golembiewski died on April 20, 2002.
