Captain Elford A. Cederberg
Elford Al Cederberg, son of Swedish immigrants Albin W. Cederberg and Helen M. Olsen, was born on May 6, 1918 in Bay City, Michigan.
Elford A. Cederberg, entered the U.S. Army in April of 1941. He married Arlene L. Munro in February, 1942 when he lived in Camp Livingston, Louisiana. Elford Cederberg was commissioned Second Lieutenant of Infantry at Fort Benning in July of 1942. He was assigned to the 83rd Infantry Division with which he served throughout the war. He served as Platoon Leader, Battalion Plans and Operations Officer, Division Headquarters Commander and Executive Officer Division Special Troops. He landed with the 83rd Division at Normandy and fought with it across France and Germany. He was discharged with rank of Captain in December, 1945 and later held the rank of Major in the U.S. Army Reserves. For his service in WWII he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantry Badge, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with five campaign stars and the Bronze Star Medal.
Following World War II, Representative Cederberg became Manager of the Nelson Manufacturing Company, Bay City, a firm engaged in production of trailer-coach accessories. Cederberg first entered politics in 1949 when he successfully ran for Mayor of Bay City. He held that office until elected to Congress in 1952. His organization memberships include Lions Club (Past President), B.P.O.E. Odd Fellows, Masons, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Member of Congress from the 10th Congressional District of Michigan, was elected to the 83rd Congress on 4 November 1952. He was a member of the House Committee on Post Office and Civil Service and the House Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries. He attended the public schools of Bay City and the Bay City Junior College. He married his second wife Marguerite R. Kletchka on November 16, 1958.
Elford A. Cederberg passed away in The Villages, Florida on April 17, 2006. He was preceded by his first wife Arlene Cederberg (1916-2001) and his second wife Marguerita Cederberg (1916-March 1, 2006).
