Private First Class Harold W. Higgins Jr.

Harold Whitten Higgins Jr. was born on March 1, 1926 in Exeter, New Hampshire to the late Harold W. Higgins (1905-unknown) and Doris H. Merrill (1904-1963). His early years were in Exeter until his family moved to Hampton, where he graduated from Hampton Academy in 1944.

He joined the U.S. Army in August, 1944, and was assigned to the 83rd Infantry Division in Germany where, during the occupation, he drove a truck between Heidelburg and Munich. He was discharged in 1946.

Back home Harold Higgins married June L. Wilson on May 30, 1947. He graduated from the Thompson School at the University of New Hampshire in 1948. Harold 'Sonny' Higgins was a self-employed brick mason, operating H.W. Higgins Mason Contracting in Rye for more than 28 years.Harrold and his wife June shared 55 years together and raised six children, three sons and three daughters. Following his wife June (1928–2002), Harrold Higgins died on October 28, 2012. They are buried at the Rye Central Cemetery in Rye, NH.
