John Gladwyn Forshey was born on July 27, 1917 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to Margaret Gordon (1895–) and Harry S. Forshey (1897–1935).
John 'Jack' G. Forshey enlisted on November 25, 1942 in Akron, Ohio. John took some of his training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana before going to the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) and was a S/Sgt. in the 83rd Infantry Division, 331st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Hq Company. Morning Report of July 9, 1944 lists John G. Forshey as Lightly Wounded in Action (LWA) and transfered to 128th Evacuation Hospital in Normandy. After Action Reports from April 1945 lists S/Sgt. Forshey as a Non-Battle Casualty (NBC) on December 18, 1944 while his unit was fighting in the Hurtgen Forest in the Lendersdorf area. After Action Reports from April 1945 lists John G. Forshey as a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He stayed with 331st Infantry Regiment for the remainder of the war. For his service he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star Medal.
John G. Forshey had one son and one daughter with his first wife Kona Jean Minter (1919–2001). He married his second wife, Evelyn Louise Wiles on September 2, 1950 in Indiana, they had four children. He also had one son and one daughter with his third wife Melina Doris Triffun (1920–1997). He died on January 30, 1979, in Barnwell, South Carolina, at the age of 61.
