John Francis Stano was born on June 21, 1921 in Dunlo, Pennsylvania, to Mary Muschinko (1903-1974) and John J. Stano (1899-1969).
John F. Stano enlisted on October 30, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. John took some of his training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana before going to the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) and was a Sgt. in the 83rd Infantry Division, 331st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Hq Company. Morning Report of January 13, 1945 lists John F. Stano as Lightly Wounded in Action (LWA) and transfered to 67th Evacuation Hospital in Belgium. After Action Reports from April 1945 lists John F. Stano as a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing himselve by meritorious service and/or heroic achievement and/or meritorious achievement in connection with Military operations against an enemy of the United States during the month April 1945. He stayed with 331st Infantry Regiment for the remainder of the war. For his service he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
John Stano married Clara Rocco in 1942, they had one son. He died at the age of 50, on February 1, 1972, he was preceded in dead by his wife Clara Stano (1918-1965).
