First Lieutenant Joseph C. Mack

Joseph Christopher Mack was born on June 2, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania, to Helen G. Toole (1884–1943) and Christopher Aloysius Mack (1873–1923). His father Christopher Aloysius passed away on December 6, 1923 when Joseph was only 5 years old.

Joseph Mack, entered the U.S. Army in August of 1941 after graduating with a Bachelor's degree from West Chester State Teachers College. After receiving basic training at Camp Croft he was transferred to Ft. McLellan where he served as an instructor for a time. He then was admitted to Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Georgia where he received his comission as a 2nd Lieutenant in October 1942. Lt. Mack was then assigned to Officer Candidate School at Camp Wheeler where he was supervisor of Education. He remained in that capicity until his assignment to the 83rd Infantry Division at Camp Breckenridge.

Lt. Joseph Mack served as Liaison officer with the 331st Infantry Regiment and would do so through the first three campaigns of the 83rd. On February 11, 1945 he was changed to Personnel officer and assigned to Regiment headquarters with whom he remained for the duration of the war. After VE-Day he attended a course at the Paris University. Upon completion he became the head of the Administration of the Educational program of the 331st Infantry Regiment during Occupation Duty. He was eventually honorably discharged in February 1946 as a Captain. His decorations include the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service.

Following World War II, Joseph Christopher Mack married Catherine Isabelle Judge on August 31, 1946. They had five children during their marriage.

Joseph Christopher Mack died on September 8, 1975, when he was 57 years old. His wife Catherine died on April 6, 2003, when she was 82 years old.
