Joseph Junior Henley was born on April 13, 1922 near Gainsbor, Jackson County, Tennessee.

He lived in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee when he enlisted the service on October 13, 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Special Orders #5 from February 1, 1945 listed him as promoted from Sgt. to S/Sgt on January 20, 1945. For his service he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star Medal.

Joseph Henley married Pansy Ethel Gaw (1923-2011). He passed away on August 13, 1999.
