Private First Class Paul S. Suffridge

Paul Seburn Suffridge was born on May 11, 1922, in Hazard, Kentucky, to Anna Belle Brashear (1900-1949) and O.V. (Bill) Suffridge (1902-1954).

Paul S. Suffridge served in the military on October 15, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was one of the early members of Anti-Tank Company. He was with them had basic training in Camp Atterbury, Indiana, then went to the Tennessee maneuvers an to Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. Early April, 1944 Anti-Tank Company was stationed at Camp Shanks from where they left the US. They headed for Europe and arrived in Liverpool on April 16 from where they left for Wales by train. The unit boarded on July 19, 1944 for France but due to heavy weather it took them 5 days to arrive at Omaha Beach. He stayed with Anti-Tank Company for the remainder of the war. The Morning Report of August 7, 1944 listed him as LWA. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war was over he was transferred to the 7th Armored Division in September 1945 while in Deggendorf, Germany, with this unit he was then discharged. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Paul S. Suffridge died on August 22, 1989, in Taylorsville, Kentucky, when he was 67 years old. He was survived by his wife Ella Stacy (1930-2021)
