Richard Floyd Heidrich was born on July 25, 1921, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Twinkle Fawn Jackson (1896–1984) and Harry N. Heidrich (1896–1972).
Richard 'Dick' F. Heidrich enlisted in the Army on October 13, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio. Dick took some of his training at Camp Atterbury, Indiana before going to the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) and was a T/4 in the 83rd Infantry Division, 331st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Hq Company. Morning Reports of November 30, 1944 lists Richard Heidrich as transferred to G Company from HQ Company, 2nd Battalion, 331st Infantry Regiment. He stayed with 331st Infantry Regiment for the remainder of the war. For his service he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantryman's Badge awarded on September 14, 1944 and the Good Conduct Medal.
Richard Heidrich had two sons and one daughter with his first wife Ella Heidrich (1923–2009). He then married Pansy Alberta Preskey (1915–1985) on May 11, 1962. After Pansy's dead, he married Mary Ruth Sparrow (1926–2006) on November 11, 1989.
He died on November 1, 1993, in his hometown at the age of 72, and was buried in South Bend, Indiana.
