Robert Marshall Wilson was born on May 21, 1926, in Warren, Ohio, to Margaret Ella Davin and Robert Marshall Wilson. His parents made his middle name Marshall after his father, but the birth certificate was messed up and only had the first letter M. His father, Robert M. Wilson Sr. served in World War One as a Private in the US Marines, 95th Company, 6th Regiment and saw action in the Battle of Belleau Wood. Received the Purple Heart Medal and Croix de Guerre.

Robert M. Wilson Jr. enlisted in US Army on August 16, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, when he was 18 years old. He was assigned to the 83rd Division and joining Cannon Company, 329th Infantry Regiment from 92nd Replacement Battalion as of January 24, 1945 as a replacement for the Battle of the Bulge casualities. He promoted to Private First Class on April 20, 1945. After V-E Day he did occupation duty in Germany and Austria.
For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 campaign stars, WW2 Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

Robert M. Wilson married Audrey Mae Bevard in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, on June 28, 1948. His wife Audrey Mae Wilson passed away on December 2, 1985, in Warren, Ohio, at the age of 57. They had been married 37 years. Robert 'Bob' Wilson died on July 3, 2004, in Carrollton, Texas and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.
