Staff Sergeant Wilbert J. Callegan

The youngest of four boys, Wilbert Joseph Callegan was born on February 6, 1914, in White Castle, Louisiana, to Lydia Gomez (–1916) and Anthony Callegan (1882–1920). Having lost his parents at very young age, Wilbert was brought up by his grandparents.

He joined the army on July 7, 1942 in New Orleans, Louisiana. For his service he was awarded, among other decorations, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

Wilbert Callegan married Artemise Marie Daigle on January 26, 1946 in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He passed away on July 1, 1993 at AMI Riverview Medical Center, Gonzales. He was 79, a resident of St. Gabriel and a native of White Castle. Wilbert was survived by his wife Marie (1920-2006).
