Biography and Wartime Service

Arthur (Athanasios) Loukas was born on June 22, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas to Louise Whitcher and Eleftherios (Fred) Loukas, born in Izmir, Turkey.

At the age of 19, Arthur Loukas enlisted the service on February 25, 1943 in Houston, Texas. At the age of just 20 he was one of the many American GI's fighting in one of the coldest Belgian winters during the Battle of the Bulge. This is were he earned his Purple Heart after being hit by mortar shrapnel in the Belgian village of JoubiƩval. The shrapnel entered his back and exited his right arm causing nerve trouble until today.

After the war, Arthur Loukas returned home to Houston, Texas. He married Barbara Ann Etchison in on September 5, 1947, when he was 23 years old. He joined the Houston Police Department on August 1, 1953. He then married on August 1, 1964, in Fort Bend, Texas with Charlotte Faye Gouldson. He retired as a police officer after nearly 36 years to the HPD. He was a lifetime member of the Battle of the Bulge Association, 83rd Infantry Association, National VFW and Local Houston Police Officers VFW 6010, Disabled American Veterans Association and Combat Infantry Association. and is a proud and active member of the Police Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6010. Arthur Loukas passed away May 10, 2018. Precede by his first wife Barbara Ann (Loukas) married 1957 Hall (1928-2012).
