Biography and Wartime Service

Chester Charles Morgan was born on June 3, 1922, in Ithaca, New York, to Cecelia Gerrin (1896–1987) and Elmer T. Morgan (1895–). He was graduated from Ithaca High School, NY, class of 1941.

Chester C. Morgan enlisted in the service on August 7, 1943 in Syracuse, New York and took some of his basic training at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma with the 42nd Infantry Division and was later stationed at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. He went to England in May 1944 and was in France since July 1, 1944. In the European Theatre of Operations (ETO), he was a Rifleman, Private First Class in the 83rd Infantry Division, 329th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, G Company. The Morning Report of August 5, 1944 lists Chester C. Morgan as Seriously Wounded in Action (SWA) and transfered to the 100th Evacuation Hospital (France). After Action Reports of August 1944 list on August 5, 1944 that Chateuneuf, Brittany, France, was the next objective:

After the War, Chester Charles Morgan married Dorothy A. Billings (1924-1982) in Ithaca, New York, on February 19, 1949. Chet worked at the Railway Express Agency and Therm Electric and at the machine shop at Cornell University, where he helped construct the synchrotron. He died peacefully at his home on September 22, 2007. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Dorothy Morgan and at the time of his dead, survived by his wife Ruth Lauretti Morgan.

I met his son Chester Jr. and his wife Luann Morgan on several 83rd Reunions. For the first time at the Reunion in West Point, New York, 2011.
