Patrick Dominic DiGiammarino was born on April 14, 1919, in Malden, Massachusetts, to Angelina Antonia Santoianni (1873–1951) and Domenico DiGiammarino (1876–1935). His mother Angelina Santoiano was born in Italy where she married Domenico DeMarzo in 1895. Domenico came to the U.S. ahead of her in 1899. Angelina followed in 1901. She and DeMarzo had five children before he died in 1913. On 16 March 1914 Angelina 'Lena' married Domenico DiGiammarino in Boston. This would be Domenico's third marriage. Lena and Domenico had three more children over the next 5 years, one of then was Patrick D. DiGiammerino. She was widowed in 1935 when Domenico died of heart disease, they had been married 21 years.
Patrick D. 'Patsy' DiGiammerino entered the service as a draftee on October 30, 1942 in Boston Massachuusetts and served with the 323rd Field Artillery, 83rd Division, from Camp Atterbury until the end of the War.
After the war he worked as a salesman in the hardware industry for many years. Pat DiGiammerino was a Past National President and local president of the 83rd Infantry Division Assosiation. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Italian American Citizens Club of Malden and a former member of the American Legion and ITAM Clubs of Malden. He was also a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Assosiation.
Patrick 'Pat' or 'Patsy' D. DiGiammerino a lifelong resident of Malden, Massachusetts, died at age 87 on May 2, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford, Massachusetts and is buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Massachusetts. He was survived by his wife Virginia "Ginny" DiGiammerino (1918–2016), his son Paul (1946–2017) and sons David and Gary.
I met his son Paul DiGiammerino at the Reunion of the 83rd Division Association, Nashville, Tennessee, 2012 and at the reunion of 2013.
